“The child slept well in it on his first night, pre-op… the anaesthetists were happy for him to stay in the bed in HDU post-op — something we cannot do with our other beds.”

Why Choose the UrZone®
Hospital Model?

Safety beds are usually only considered for Children’s Wards but teens and adults with the same disabilities or difficulties require safety beds in other wards and departments, too.

Ease of use – knuckle ‘folding’ joints means it’s easy to assemble / disassemble (in only a few minutes).

Another feature of the UrZone is its portability – it can remain in place on a profiling bed for immediate use or can be easily stored in its suitcases and taken to be used wherever needed in the hospital.

The UrZone folds down into 1 suitcase if required, but more comfortably into 2 suitcases (supplied).

To make it easier to wash in most washing machines, the UrZone splits into 3 sections (bedsheet, base, and roof / sides). It can also be tumble dried.

The UrZone – Hospital Model has been driven by customer feedback and need as few hospitals in the U.K. have safety beds or a safety bed like the UrZone which promotes rest and sleep, not just safety. Parents / carers often delay vitally needed operations due to fear and anxiety as to how their loved one will cope in a hospital environment until it becomes essential. Patient management at that point can be exceedingly challenging for both parents / carers and staff and the UrZone helps to mitigate any potential issues with patient safety.

Ideal for All Hospital Departments

The UrZone – Hospital Model is a part of HKD Solutions’ commitment to continue to deliver innovation where it’s needed the most and with the life-changing results seen with the other UrZone models, they are confident that this model will prove very successful in hospitals and nursing homes for the benefit of their patients and staff.

Strength and Durability

Following many months of development, we have a unique flexible frame design, incorporating gas struts, for increased strength and durability.

UrZone® Technical Details

We have a UK single model (to fit a standard UK mattress of 190 x 90 x 20cm, min. 17cm high - a standard profiling mattress of 200 x 86/88 x 15/17cm, min. 15cm high, will also fit). We have a UK double model (to fit a standard UK double mattress of 190 x 135 x 20cm, min. 17cm high). Extended access versions are available for both the single and double models. We also have a school model which has a base of 190 x 96cm. Hospitals purchase the extended access model due to its versatility. We are also able.

We have tested the material for strength and the mesh result was approx. 495 pounds of pressure (PSI) and the opaque material was approx. 562 pounds of pressure (PSI). The weave of the mesh means that it is very difficult to rip / tear, even if bitten or chewed. The strength testing we have carried out on the frame has proven to us that it is incredibly strong and durable - more than any comparable product on the market. The gas struts and flexibility of the joints means that it can take more strain without breaking. If you have any.

The UrZone is flame-retardant to a very high standard - CRIB 7 (maximum risk, e.g. use in prisons). In a fire, if you had a baby in a cot, you would be responsible for helping them out the building. This is the same with the UrZone with the added bonus that at least you will know where they are - they won't be hiding in a small space somewhere, potentially not answering to their name. We also recommend families contact their local Fire Station and alert them to the fact that they have a safe enclosed bed in their property.

Absolutely! There's a 'Sunday best' standard called Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, Class 1 (highest safety level - for textile items for babies and toddlers up to 3 years, i.e. items that they will be in close skin contact with) and the UrZone material passed with flying colours but we weren't happy with just this. This only tests with alkaline testing and we wanted to test with acid testing (if someone managed to get a piece of material and swallowed it) so we added in the standard for EN71 part 3 (nursery toy testing in case a toy is chewed and swallowed).
